This year‘s upcoming Scholarship Program will be extraordinary in many ways. In particular, it will open on November 16th, 2020, two months earlier than in previous years. The experienced Bakala Foundation team feels that taking this step will help applicants as they decide which foreign university to pursue. In many cases, students must make these decisions by Spring.
Scholarship applicants will have even more to consider this year when choosing a university due to the changing situations and anti-pandemic measures in individual countries. “The path to make your dreams come true always comes with some obstacles to overcome. The pandemic has affected all our daily activities and is a great challenge for us. But it should be also seen as an extraordinary opportunity of how to change the world for the better. Do not let yourself be overcome by the complexities of today’s situation and continue doing what fulfills your life,“ encouraged Michaela and Zdeněk Bakala, the Bakala Foundation’s founders in the Czech Republic, to all scholars and alumni of the Scholarship program.
The information on the Scholarship Program is available on the Foundation’s website www.bakalafoundation.org. The Bakala Foundation will be accepting applications from November 16th, 2020, to January 18th, 2021. The program is designed for all financially challenged students from the Czech Republic under the age of 33 already studying or wishing to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree at one of the world’s best universities abroad. Candidates must complete the application and write an English-language essay on one of the three offered topics. Successful applicants will have excellent grades, contagious enthusiasm for the field of study, and an interest in the world around us. Students who are preparing to start their university studies and those who have already begun are encouraged to apply. The expert panel will invite the best applicants to interview in person. The interviews will take place in May and announcements of the final results will take place at the end of that same month.
During the program’s eleven years of existence, the Foundation has supported 171 talented students at 50 universities worldwide. The Foundation provides scholars financial aid throughout the entirety of their studies, as well as counseling and emergency financial support. Such aid proved crucial, during this time of closing universities and the transition to distance learning, due to COVID 19 or in addressing the increasing school fees for students at British universities due to Brexit.
